In 2010, while helping start a private medical practice from scratch, we struggled through credentialing, selecting an EHR system, getting a HIPAA-compliant IT-network in place, insurance contracting, and learning how to bill.
While we waiting to get credentialed, we mastered CPT codes, ICD-9 diagnostic codes, and billing modifiers. We also figured out how much to charge for procedures so we weren't getting underpaid.
Later, we had to unlearn some of that as we made the transition to ICD-10.
We also dealt, first hand, with insurance denials, corrected claim submissions, confirmation of benefits (COBs), insurance/HMO/PPO/IPA contracts, duplicate billing, lost EOBs, being on hold, and the whole shebang!
Once the practice was up and running, we thought we'd share our learnings with fellow practitioners. We wrapped all our blood, sweat and tears (lots of them!!) into Ushwin.
